Halal Picanha Steak recipe

Serves: 2
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 15-20 minutes (depending on desired doneness)

Ingredients :

  • 400 g Halal Picanha steak (cut into two thick slices)
  • 2 tablespoons coarse salt (Brazilian style uses a generous amount of salt, but it’s not all consumed)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Olive oil (for grilling, optional)

Instructions :

  1. Prep the Steak: If not already done, cut the Picanha into two thick slices, with the fat cap left on. The fat cap is essential for flavour and juiciness.
  2. Season: Rub each piece of steak with coarse salt. If using, you can also rub minced garlic onto the meat for added flavour. Some prefer to keep it simple with just salt.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill (or a heavy grill pan) to a high heat. If using a pan, you can brush it lightly with olive oil.
  4. Grill: Place the steaks on the grill, fat cap side down first, to render some of the fat for about 5 minutes. Then, grill each side for about 5-7 minutes for medium-rare, or adjust to your preferred doneness.
  5. Rest: Let the steaks rest for about 5 minutes after grilling. This helps the juices redistribute throughout the meat.
  6. Serve: Slice the steak against the grain into thick slices to ensure tenderness. Serve immediately, perhaps with a side of grilled vegetables or a fresh salad.
