Serves: 2
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 6-8 minutes (for medium-rare; adjust according to preference)
Ingredients:
- 2 Halal beef fillet steaks (approximately 200-250g each)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- A sprig of thyme or rosemary (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Preparation: Let the steaks sit at room temperature for about 20 minutes before cooking. This helps ensure even cooking.
- Season: Rub each steak with olive oil and then season generously with salt and pepper on both sides. If you like, you can also rub the minced garlic onto the steaks for added flavour.
- Preheat the Pan: Heat a heavy-based frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat until very hot. No need to add oil to the pan if you’ve already oiled the steaks.
- Cook: Place the steaks in the pan. For medium-rare, cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, turning only once. Adjust the cooking time if you prefer your steak more or less done.
- Rest: Transfer the steaks to a plate and cover loosely with foil. Let them rest for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, ensuring it’s juicy and tender.
- Serve: Garnish with a sprig of thyme or rosemary if desired. Serve immediately, perhaps with a side of sautéed vegetables or a fresh salad.
